outlier press
A place for unusual stories about unusual people.
A collaborative way for them to own their tales.
Told with integrity and truth.
what is it?
Outlier Press is a publishing imprint. It provides the framework for you to work with me and publish your story as coauthors of a book.
who is it for?
Outlier Press is for unusual individuals who want to take control and ownership of their own story. My expertise is in sport but I’m open to exploring other topics so don’t hesitate if you have something else to say.
You’ll need to be someone who wants to move quickly, who isn’t afraid to communicate openly and honestly and someone who is happy taking some risks. I’ll be writing and while I’ll certainly be there once the book is released, you will be front and centre when telling people about it.
The press is for those who want to work in a true partnership with me as a credited coauthor. If you want some advice on how to self-publish your own book without my involvement, head here.
how does it work?
We would work together to get your words on the page and eventually into a draft. If you’re a writer then we can collaborate in text but equally, I can interview you and use transcripts of our conversations to get your material out of your head.
Then we’d have the work edited, improved, tested with readers and finally proofread before being made available on Amazon and in bookshops and libraries. We’d create print and ebook formats but I can advise you and potentially create an audiobook as well.
why do it like this?
Traditional publishing is geared towards those who already have a big name for themselves, is far harder to break into and you get far less power over your story if you do. It’s also a much slower moving beast. Here we can tell the story you want to tell, move fast and get it into the world.
You’ll have to put in the work and share the costs involved with creating the book but you’ll also keep a far higher percentage of the profits. Traditionally published books leave up to 10% for the author with the rest going to the publisher, meaning you need to move a big volume to see much money. Here you’ll take on more of the risk but you’ll also keep more of the upside. You’ll own your story and have control over where it goes.
tell me your story
There’s no reason for you to not pursue all avenues with your story and I encourage you to do so. If you’ve got something you think we could work on together, then hit the button and let’s see what we can do!
