book coaching & production - the book about money

During one of our several UK lockdowns, I worked with a guy called Orrin Benford.

Orrin was COO of a startup called Switch & Co. Now they’re called LVL Wellbeing. That’s what we worked on and during the 3 months I helped them rebrand and redo their company vision and tone of voice guidelines, as well as all their existing digital content, it was extremely evident how much Orrin got done.

He gets even more done now as alongside his job, his side hustles and investments and parenting his son, his wife Allie has given birth to twins. They’ve also all moved to Australia. Orrin is a motivated and capable person.

So when he got talking to me about his book project, I thought that this is one project that will get finished. When he asked for advice on the writing process I gave it to him, when he asked me to read the draft for pointers I did and when he asked me to help him edit, proof and publish the book, I did that too.

Orrin intends this book to help people get on top of their finances and start their journeys to financial wellbeing. It’s also intended to set up the next stage of his professional life as a financial educator. The book is written in a very down-to-earth and approachable manner, with clear language and diagrams intended to explain rather than obscure financial concepts that can remain opaque to many of us.

One of the important things was not imposing my taste on the project. This is Orrin’s book and it was important that it was written in his voice and it’s proven popular with readers so far.

Writing a book is not a quick win. It doesn’t need to be daunting but it will take time, there will be stumbling blocks and the payoffs will most likely not be immediate. Writing a book is a long term game for people who think long term and for Orrin, it’s something intended to set up the rest of his life and establish him as an expert in a topic that he wants to help others with.

It’s been a pleasure and a privilege helping Orrin create The Book About Money. If you’d like to do a similar project then please get in touch.
