Plumber By Appointment was a passion project for Stephen Trench.

Edmund Harwood, a relative, had served on a Naval vessel with HRH The Duke of Edinburgh. He’d been a diarist and had documented some of their adventures on board and for years, the diaries had remained just that.

Stephen wanted to make the diaries into a book as a small passion project to commemorate their relative. He had the transcripts and some photographs he’d scanned in which we used to create a book manuscript on my publishing software Vellum. I then walked Stephen through the self-publishing process on KDP and now there sits a finished memoir of life at sea in the mid-20th century.

Using KDP, Stephen is able to order copies at cost when it suits him and the family. The book is available to the world using print on demand, meaning that Stephen doesn’t need to buy stock but can keep the book available for anyone else who may be interested.

With Plumber By Appointment, Stephen has created a beautiful object that celebrates the life of his relative. It was a privilege to help him do so.
